This pith helmet style is reminiscent of a classic fireman’s helmet. The helmet was named after M/Gen. Sir Garnet Wolseley, who developed the original pattern. We have seen many variations on the name…Wolsey, Wolesley, etc., but the correct spelling is Wolseley. Through the years there have been many minor variations to this style. Our model has a tail approximately 3 3/4 inches. Sweatband and chin strap are genuine leather. There is a green underbrim. Color: White(as per the original) and khaki. Size: Adjustable by means of Velcro at the end of the sweatband. Sorry, but this helmet runs a little on the small side and will only fit up to about a 7 1/4.
Dr Livingston, I presume?. This pith helmet style (also known as UK Pith Helmet)is associated with British colonial and foreign service history. It is made from trees grown in the northern part of Vietnam. The material can sustain heavy sunlight as well as rain. When wet the hat may become a bit softer, but then dries to its original state. The Vietnamese learned the art of pith helmet manufacturing a hundered years ago from the French during their occupation. Color: Khaki, as pictured. Size: Adjustable by way of Velcro on the end of the sweatband – One-Size-Fits-Most. Up to about a 7 3/8.
This pith helmet is designed to be an historically accurate replica of that worn by the 24th RoF in the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. It is a real pith helmet, made one hat at a time. Thanks to the reenactor groups who have helped with this design. These “Living History Units” have added that the Pith Helmet is also known as the U.S. M1881 Summer Helmet. Color: White. Size: Adjustable by means of a velcro ending on the interior sweatband.
By popular demand, we have introduced this Indian style pith helmet in a size range for people with bigger heads. We made these at the special request of a Boy Scout troop for the Boy Scouts Jamboree, 2005. They came out so well that we added the helmet to our regular line. It is the same style as our regular French Pith Helmet, but with the camouflage cover that you see in the image. Size: Adjustable by way of a Velcro-type closure at the tail of the sweatband. Color: Desert Camo as per the image.
The African Safari Pith Helmet that you see here is the newest pith helmet in our line. Like most of the others (Indian, French, British, Square-crowned, Camo) it is a real pith helmet. By “real” we mean that the hat is made from the core (pith) of trees that grow in northern Vietnam. They are made one piece at a time–see the images at our Pith Helmets main page. This helmet has the same properties as the others, that being light weight (the 4-ply wood interior is low-density-somewhat like balsa wood), immersible in water whereby the wearer stays cool as he/she hikes and the water evaporates, genuine leather sweatband and chin strap. The underbrim is green. Color: Khaki (as you see in the image). Sizes: Adjustable.
