When brushing your Open Road, you will notice a light powder fly from the hat. Don’t fear! This is the new 8/4 (or Newsboy) being produced by our favorite company, Jaxon Hats. The hat is 50% wool, 50% polyester and 100% satin lined.
If you travel and love to wear hats, this is the perfect companion for that beloved accessory. Traveling with hats can be a burden but the Hat Can solves this problem. Your hat sits upon the inner hat rest that can be adjusted to fit any hat size via the wing-nuts on the bottom of the case. The hat then floats on the rest and the brim is safe from damage. A hat with a maximum brim width of 4″ will fit inside the ‘Western’ size Hat Can. The crown can measure up to 5″ high and still fit comfortably within the Hat Can. This is a big hat, a great hat. It has a 6-inch brim–you want sun shade?! The crown is not so high-5 1/4 inches-making the hat less overwhelming (if you can say such a thing with a 6-inch brim). The hat has three vent eyelets and a stampede string (chincord). The “Gus” crown block is very distinctive. The Saxon by Stetson is the best selling hat from the premiere American hat company. Tom Landry, the late great coach of the Dallas Cowboys was well known for wearing this style of hat. The hat features a 2 inch brim, 20 ligned grosgrain trim with bow and side feather, leather sweatband and white satin lining with the “STETSON” mark. The traditional 6 panel ballcap has a fused buckram skeleton that forms the rounded athletic 4″ crown. Spandex has been woven into the cotton twill cap to allow for maximum stretch and comfort. The hat made famous by Robert Duvall in Lonesome dove, (although his was Silver Belly, and we carry Black only). This is a Stetson classic. The crown slopes from six inches in the back to four inches in the front. The brim is four inches. The band is braided leather. Available in Black only.
Here is the classic Derby, also known as a Bowler, in a 100% fur felt quality. This iconic hat (see the “Hats in Art History” and “Iconic Hats” links in the left column of this site for more on the history of The Bowler) is fully lined, has a genuine leather sweatband, a traditional black grosgrain trim that is finished with a bow at the side. This hat is a classic and still in fashion, as seen on Mario Van Peebles and his father, the original Badass Melvin Van Peebles at the 2005 Academy Awards. We don’t think there is a better wool felt bowler (also known as derby) out there. This style was created in 1850 as a hard hat for horseback riding while patrolling a game reserve by an English warden (see the links in the left column entitled “Iconic Hats” and “Hats in Art History” for more information). In that tradition, this Jaxon verison of the bowler is a little stiffer than its competitors. The 100% wool felt quality is impressive and the hat comes fully lined with the Jaxon logo in the tips.
